NaNoWriMo

This looks great: National Novel Writing Month or NaNoWriMo.

It’s a simple concept. Write a novel (50,000 words) in a month. As the organisers put it, what matters is quantity, not quality.

It’s got me thinking that on a smaller scale this could be just as much fun – and a lot quicker. A group of friends give themselves a couple of days to write a short story, say 3,000 words. Then, they get together at the end of the week, read a lot, drink a lot and, who knows, a hidden talent or two might emerge.
