This looks great: National Novel Writing Month or NaNoWriMo.

It’s a simple concept. Write a novel (50,000 words) in a month. As the organisers put it, what matters is quantity, not quality.

It’s got me thinking that on a smaller scale this could be just as much fun – and a lot quicker. A group of friends give themselves a couple of days to write a short story, say 3,000 words. Then, they get together at the end of the week, read a lot, drink a lot and, who knows, a hidden talent or two might emerge.

Any takers?

“Make no mistake: You will be writing a lot of crap. And that’s a good thing. By forcing yourself to write so intensely, you are giving yourself permission to make mistakes. To forgo the endless tweaking and editing and just create. To build without tearing down.” – NaNoWriMo
